M.I.A.

Missing in Action.

Okay, so I've kind of gotten a little slack on my blogging lately, but I do have plenty of excuses ready! Wanna hear?

I've been busy with....

1. Ballgames

2. Visting family

3. Lifeguarding

4. Directing our church's Vacation Bible School

5. Conquering my fear of cake decorating for youngest DD's birthday (see the April archives)

Summer has proved to be a very busy time for us, even more so than the school year. I can't tell you how tired we've been, so I'll just show you....

(My DD--who rarely naps--sacked out in the living room floor even though one of her favorite pals had come over to play!)
Yes...that tiring! :)

Random Off-Topic Quiz

Just for kicks...take the donut quiz to see what kind of donut you would be! Here are my results:

You Are a Glazed Donut

Okay, you know that you're plain - and you're cool with that.
You prefer not to let anything distract from your sweetness.
Your appeal is understated yet universal. Everyone digs you.
And in a pinch, you'll probably get eaten.

For the record, it's true: I am a plain jane & proud of it. Haven't you ever heard the saying, "less is more?" :)

Tree Climbers

Our weekend was a quiet, laid-back one and we soaked it up because it's so rarely like that! My oldest child discovered the joy of climbing the solitary tree on our front lawn at dusk one night (we live in western Oklahoma; we're lucky to have one tree!). It reminded me of my childhood and the time when I climbed our mimosa tree to see where a firetruck was headed (we lived far into the country & firetrucks or traffic of any kind were pretty rare). I created a problem when I put most of my weight onto a skinny little rotten branch....and it snapped. I spent the next 3 months wearing a sling and trying to do my third grade homework with my left hand instead of my right. My daughter was forewarned!

Oh--this was our other tree climber....

...Toby. I'm not so worried about him breaking any bones.

Wildflowers a la Franks

While my husband was busy with the vegetable garden, my girls were busy preparing a little corner of the yard for their very own wildflower bed. They did a great job! Maybe there is hope for the greenthumb gene to be passed on in our family after all (sadly, I did not get it). Here are some of their results:

How Does Your Garden Grow?

It's a rare thing to find a backyard without a little garden spot in our little town. You know the term, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do?" Well, "When in Leedey, do as the Leedey-ites do" and plant a garden!

Here's our little backyard experiment. Not nice enough to win any first place ribbons, but enough to make my Ma-Maw Wisdom proud. :)

Nice leafy green lettuce (which, for the record, did not taste as good as it looks).

We're soon-to-be the proud parent of a little red tomato!

The best part about having a garden has been fresh onions and potatoes! And, yes, we pride ourselves on being so "organic" that we allow all natural grass and weeds to intermingle with our produce. Okay...it's actually called "being too lazy to weed the garden."

Boys & Their Bridges

This is a good example of why custom photography is so personal. This little man is sitting on his grandparents' antique bridge outside of their home. They love the bridge and they will all cherish this picture as he grows older.
But they'd better watch out: Mr. C is gonna be a heart breaker when he gets older. He has the most beautiful blue eyes. They were WANDERING eyes, no less....he did not want to make eye contact when there was so much to see in the great outdoors. :)

"It's a girl!" Umm... "It's a boy!"

Remember our cute little kitty, Dixie? Well, evidently we made one minor (okay, MAJOR) mistake. We thought she was a girl...but she's not! We recently discovered after a quick recheck that "she" is actually a "he"--whoops! We decided that "Dixie" sounded too feminine, so he has now been renamed, "Toby." We've had a hard time with the transition (I still hear "Come here, girl," or "Where is she?" fairly often), but we are finally starting to get our pronouns straightened out!
